I came to Texas as an exchange student. I left with a second family, a new sense of self, and a heart full of gratitude.
A year ago, I had no idea how much one year could change me—until I became an exchange student in Texas. Moving across the world is exciting and terrifying. I arrived in Texas, not knowing what to expect. A new culture, a new school, and a family I’d never met before – everything was unfamiliar. But for that year, the unfamiliar became unforgettable. “Spending a year abroad as an exchange student in Texas has truly been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. When I first arrived, I didn’t know exactly what to expect. I was nervous, excited, and full of questions—but little did I know how deeply this journey would shape me. Living on a farm with my amazing host family, surrounded by five host siblings, taught me more than I ever could have imagined. I discovered the warmth of American hospitality and the meaning of unconditional love from a family who opened their hearts and home to me. At school, I challenged myself to adapt to a different system, make new friends, and step out of my comfort zone. Every day brought something new—a new word, a new tradition, a new memory. I gained a deeper understanding of American culture, but I also discovered more about myself. I became more independent, more confident, and more open-minded. The most powerful part of this exchange wasn’t just the places I saw or the things I did—it was the people. My host family became my second family. My friends became part of my story. And I became part of a community that will always hold a piece of my heart. This year was filled with challenges, growth, and countless unforgettable moments. It taught me that the world is so much bigger than I realized—and that, no matter where you come from, kindness, love, and connection are universal. If I could do it all over again, I would say yes in a heartbeat. This exchange year didn’t just give me memories, it gave me gratitude, and a second home across the world.”
